Harriet Tubman

 Harriet Tubman | Christian History

Have you ever thought what it was like being a slave? Harriet

Tubman was one of not many that got freedom growing up. Being a slave was

pretty much doing chores left and right, not being given the proper food they

need, and getting abused by their slave owners.

Harriet had to escape and have freedom because of a disorder she got

called Narcolepsy, (she didn’t want her slave owner to know about it) She

ran away because she was afraid that her owner would get mad at her

because of it. Harriet realized it was possible to escape and wanted that

for others because she got her disorder from her slave owner when they hit

her in the head with an iron bar. She didn’t want anyone to go through that

traumatizing feeling.

Harriet Tubman wanted to accomplish having freedom and peace for everyone.

She also wanted to stop poverty by rescuing people because poverty wasn’t right

or fair. She believed that black people deserved better than the way they were treated

She accomplished rescuing thousands of slaves from using the underground railroad. The Underground Railroad was secret, illegal paths all connecting to each other to help slaves get to freedom. You might think that this was underground but it wasn’t. It was just a phrase meaning undercover. with the help of the Underground Conductors. The Underground Conductors were people that helped build passages in the underground. She had different people at different places like stations to get the group so the people helping the slaves wouldn’t have to walk the whole way. William Still (Who would write about the trip) would assist Hariet. Harriet and her team knew the consequences if they got caught, they could go to jail or even get killed, but they chose to rescue people anyway.

Harriet Tubman was one of the reasons we don’t have slavery anymore,

because she risked her life saving others despite the punishments. This made

people think about all the things Hariet and other slaves had to go through just

to get the same equality as White people. People might be familiar with Hariet

but I feel like she doesn't get the recognition she deserves.

Harriet risked her life to save others. She is probably the most selfless

person I’ve ever learned about. She definitely spent most of her life doing

the right thing. Harriet once said “I had reasoned this out in my mind; there

was one of two things I had a right to, liberty or death; if I could not have

one, I would have the other; for no man should take me alive.” In this quote,

she is saying that she either has liberty/freedom or she would die because

she doesn’t want to live an unfair life. She changed the World and she

inspired others.
